An unexpected jump in the confidence of consumers and small gains in spending of Americans and revenue helped push stocks higher for the third consecutive day Friday. Stocks were down slightly for the week, however, giving the market its fourth week of losses.
The Dow Jones index increased 38.82 points, or 0.3%, to 12,441.58.
The standard & poor 500 index increased 5.41 points, or 0.4%, to 1,331.10.
The Nasdaq composite increased 13.94 points, or 0.5%, to 2,796.86.
For the week:
The Dow Jones index is 70.46 points, or 0.6%.
The standard & poor 500 index is down 2.17 or 0.2 per cent.
The Nasdaq composite is down 6.46 or 0.2 per cent.
For the year to date:
The Dow Jones index is 864.07, or 7.5 per cent.
The S & P is 73.46, or 5.8%.
The Nasdaq is 143.99, or 5.4%.
