New hopes for an agreement to prevent the Greece by default on its debts led to the stock exchange at the end of a month down on a note pleased Tuesday. Declining confidence of consumers in the U.S. economy unexpectedly kept gains in check. The stock market largely ends higher. All 10 industries that comprise the Standard and Poor 500 index rose.
The Dow Jones index increased 128.21 points, or 1%, to 12,569.79.
The standard & poor 500 index has grown 14.10 points, or 1.1%, to 1,345.20.
The Nasdaq composite increased 38.44 points, or 1.4%, to 2,835.30.
For the year to date:
The Dow Jones index is 992.28, or 8.6%.
The S & P is 87.56, or 7.0%.
The Nasdaq is 182.43, or 6.9%.
