President of the Thai SEC closes as support of the alleged links (AP)

BANGKOK - the head of the Agency for the Thailand stock market watchdog resigned Thursday after he was accused of being involved in an attempted takeover of a listed company.

The Securities and Exchange Commission said the President Vijit Supinit resignation would be effective Friday. No reason was given. Its Chief SEC mandate was due to end next month.

More that 100 SEC employees earlier Thursday was black in protest against the alleged involvement of Vijit in an attempt to control hostile Thoresen Thai agencies Public Company Limited, one of the largest agencies of maritime transport in bulk of the Thailand.

CEO of the Thoresen Chandchutha Chandratat was reported by the Bangkok Post newspaper as saying that Vijit met with the leaders of the company and investors who wanted to support, and it has been proposed as the new President.

Thoresen nor Vijit has issued any statement Thursday, while the shares of the company ends the day of trading slightly.

The SEC statement said that he has entrusted to a Committee to consider whether it is necessary to revise its governance and the rules of ethics for members of the Council.
