How the major stock indexes fared Friday (AP)

A report on the employment low Envoy of stocks lower, liquidate the fifth consecutive week of losses for the Dow Jones index and the S & P 500 index. Employers added only 54 000 new workers in may, less than eight months and well below what analysts had expected, the Labour Ministry said Friday. Private companies hired the smallest number of new workers in nearly a year, and the unemployment rate increased by 9.1% to 9%.

The Dow Jones index lost 97.29 points, or 0.8 percent, to close at 12,151.26.

The standard & poor 500 index dropped 12.78 points, or 1%, to 1,300.16.

The Nasdaq composite fell to 40.53, or 1.5%, to 2,732.78.

For the week:

The Dow Jones index is down 290.32 or 2.3%.

The S & P is down 30.94% or 2.3%.

The Nasdaq is down 64.08% or 2.3%.

For the year to date:

The Dow Jones index is 573.75 or 5.0%.

The S & P is 42,52, or 3.4%.

The Nasdaq is 79.91, or 3.0%.
