Seoul (Reuters) - South Korea's financial watchdog has launched an investigation Monday in the leakage of personal information of Hyundai capital Korea South, the Hyundai Motor Group consumer finance unit, said an official of the financial supervisory Service.
Hyundai capital said of the personal information of approximately 420 000 of its customers of $ 1.8 million was released when an unidentified hacker attacked its database.
The company said in a statement Sunday that it is conducting its own investigation into the incident, citing the possibility that certain customer accounts passwords may have also been compromised.
Hyundai capital deals auto financing, loans and personal loans real estate and is jointly owned by the largest manufacturer of the Korea of the South, Hyundai Motor Co and GE Capital, which holds a 43% stake.
