London (AFP) - Britain Tuesday supported claim of the Japan for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and has promised to support its economic integration with the European Union after the Foreign Ministers of both countries met in London.
Foreign Secretary William Hague also said Enomoto Matsumoto, his Japanese counterpart, that Britain had "admiration" for the response of the Japan for the March earthquake and the tsunami that devastated the northeast coast of the country.
"In the Japan is undoubtedly our closest partner in Asia", Hague said in a statement.
"The Japan is a partner sharing the same idea and a positive force in the peace and security and I repeat our support again today for a Security Council of the United Nations expanded with a permanent seat for the Japan"He added.
Britain in March urged the European Union to facilitate the barriers between the block and its trading partners outside and used meeting Tuesday to repeat its demands.
"The removal of tariff and non-tariff barriers could deliver more 40 billion euros ($59.2 billion) of the Japan extra European exports and more than 50 billion euros of additional exports of the Japan, the EU" has supported the Hague.
The pair agreed to "support the Libya people in their aspiration to get rid of a dictator" and "the vital need to reach a solution in two States of the Arab-Israeli conflict."
Referring to the earthquake, Hague, said: "we feel great friendship and affinity with the Japanese people in this hour of tragedy... and we have great admiration for the resilience and human dignity and courage of the people of the Japan".
